Based on this we have booked a "Dry Dive" at the Whipps Cross University hospital in Leytonstone Click here for directions. The idea is that we get a tour of the facility for an hour or so and they explain more about what DCI is and what they do to cure it. After this we are put into the chamber and taken to 40m. We do a few tests to test our reactions etc. It is highly likely that we will all get narked. But it is done in a safe environment. After this we are put on pure 02 and brought to the surface. You can get to log this as a dive but you will need to bring your computer. It gets put in a bucket of water so that it can be activated and log the depth !!!
The cost of this course/experience is £40. If anybody would like to convert this to the PADI Recompression Chamber Awareness specialty there will be an additional charge of £16 for the PIC Card, payable on the day to the hospitals own instructor.
The session has been booked for 9.30am on Sunday 28th February
Please be aware that this is a working chamber and if an emergency occurs while we are there any patient would take preference. We would of course get a refund.
This should not only be a very informative session but it should be a lot of fun. Places are limited to just 8 people. The only fair way to do this is to give the places to the first people who can get the full amount to us (we need to pay in advance)
Requirements
Prerequisite certification: PADI Open water Diver (or equivalent certification with another organisation).
- Minimum age requirement: 16 years of age.
- Complete a UK Sports Diver Medical form.
- Proof of Qualification.
- Divers Logbook.
- Computers/Depth gauges may be taken on the chamber dive in a bucket of water.
As you can see spaces are very limited and as a result the only fair way, as previously, is to allocate spaces based on payment. So the first to call into the dive centre or phone through credit card details gets the place !!
