We are returning to this boat due to the success of the trip in September 2007. Whilst it is a bit smaller than our September 2008 boat it is still a superb boat with excellent facilities. Launched in August 2003, M/Y Blue Pearl is an outstanding liveaboard which offers very comfortable accommodation for up to 20 guests. There are 9 twin and 2 double cabins, all with ample storage space. Each cabin has en-suite shower/toilet, individual A/C units and audio system. The Blue Pearl's sturdy design, aerodynamic hull and extensive array of high tech navigational aids and communication equipment makes her ideal for the more demanding Southern itineraries and Marine Parks. On board luxury is immediately noticeable with teak decks and mahogany in the saloon area and cabins. The living area is spacious and there is a sundeck. The dive platform allows easy access to the water. The Blue Pearl also offers full Nitrox and technical diving facilities.
One of the reasons for picking this boat is due to the succes of our trip in September 2007, when we sailed on this boat to do the Northern wrecks. The boat is very well laid out with an excellent sun deck, shaded area and lounge and restaurant. The boat is well designed with plenty of space to relax or have fun. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well fitted out and as usual are small but comfortable. The standard of food on the boat is also excellent with three meals a day being provided. The price also includes all soft drinks including water teas and coffess. The staff ofetn provide cakes or afternoon fruit cocktails afetr a dive. The only expense on the boat is for any beers you may drink inj the evenings.
The Itinerary
This trip will leave on Wednesday June 11th flying from Gatwick to Marsa Alam, returning on Wednesday 18th June. This trip is on board the M/Y Blue Pearl. After the success of the trip to St John's and the Southern reefs last year we decided that we would go again. These really are spectacular reefs, and even the die hard wreckies had to admit that it was very impressive diving that tempted them back from "The Dark Side" Many people have dived the Northern reefs, particularly Ras Muhammad which is regarded as one of the best in the Red Sea, but most of us preferred these reefs. They are very colourful, and marine life is very abundant. St John's Reef caves are truly spectacular. This is a very shallow cave system that is suitable for non techies. Because it is shallow there is plenty of light and each tunnel opens up into a "room" of very spectacular coral and marine life. A magnificent dive suitable for all levels of experience.
As with all liveaboards we will arrive at the boat sometime on the Wednesday and unpack and have a meal on the boat. Early Thursday we will set sail and have a check out dive later in the day, with at least one more dive on the first day. We will then have three dives a day (4 if you do a night dive) until Tuesday, when we arrive back into the harbour. We then have Tuesday evening/night on the boat. (This usually allows time for some shopping in town and several beers !!!) Dinner is provided on the boat though some people may prefer to eat in town. Flight times have not been confirmed yet, but hopefully we may have time to have another wander around town on Wednesday before flying home.
