The Itinerary
The trip is heading for St Keverne on the Southern tip of Cornwall near the Lizard. The trip has been booked for the weekend of 8th 9th 10th of August - which you may know is prime time to see basking sharks. We have booked a boat called the Celtic Cat for Saturday and Sunday, so we have planned and paid for 4 dives. The accommodation has been booked for Friday and Saturday night, though due to popular demand we also have the option of staying over on the Sunday night and coming back on Monday morning, or doing a shore dive, or simply relaxing for a few hours. The choice is yours!
Because it is sheltered from North Westerly to South westerly gales there is almost always opportunities to get out. One of the key attractions of the area is the Manacles. this is a large area of underwater reefs and rocks that have proved the undoing of many ships over the years. This area of reef covering approximately one square mile has caused more loss of shipping than any other comparable reef on the entire south coast of Britain . Some 110 ships and over one thousand lives have been lost in this small area, and as a result there are lots of opportunities for us as divers
The Accommodation Cornwall , possibly the country's premier diving location, offers the combination of a temperate climate along with a coastline washed by the clear, clean waters of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. This ensures good underwater visibility all year around.
Basking Sharks are regular visitors to the Cornish coastline along with Porpoises and Dolphins, an abundance of shipwrecks and reefs ranging from 8m to 80m caters for divers of all levels of diver. The un-spoilt dive sites of Cornwall filled with many types of fish, crustaceans and reef life await the visiting diver.
We will be staying at the Parc an Grouse. The accommodation is made up of one large farmhouse and a large barn conversion - we will be in the barn conversion.
it has been designed specifically for divers with large en-suite bedrooms and purpose built secure drying room, this allows them to take dive groups of up to twelve divers. Also there is plenty of safe off road parking. A hose and large fresh water dunk tank are supplied for washing diving equipment. Best of all is the location - The house is situated overlooking the ocean (and the Manacles) close to a quiet sandy beach and just a short walk from the village of St. Keverne in beautiful South Cornwall on the Lizard culdrose Peninsula the most southerly part of England, we are the ideal place to stay if you'd like to take advantage of the many activities that can be sought in South West Cornwall, the Coast Path is just at the bottom of the fields with many lovely walks, the picturesque fishing villages of Coverack, Cadgwith, Porthallow and Mullion are all close by.
The house is just a five minute walk back into St. Keverne with its two pubs, restaurant and village shops.
A weekend break in such peaceful surroundings will do us all the world of good |
