After the success of the Pembroke trip the trip to Tenerife had a lot to live up to.
Surprisingly the weather wasn't that great though the diving was. Seven of us made the trip and everyone had a great time. The accommodation was once again superb and all the restaurants equally good. I know Tenerife has a reputation for larger louts but, Silencio, where we stayed is much quieter with a good choice of restaurants as well as a few English type places. I think everyone was pleasantly surprised by the resort.
As for the diving there are many sites to choose from in Tenerife . These are some of the sites we visited The Steps - This is almost like diving on a mountain range. The site is made up of basalt steps and mountain peaks and thus it has quite a spectacular view from underwater. The site also has large shoals of Roncaderos which will wrap themselves around you if you swim into them carefully, There are also octopus, puffer fish, sea bream and many other colourful fish
Mushrooms - Similar to the steps but so named due to the shape of the rocks. Again many different types of fish
Yellow Mountain - Another spectacular dive with stunning scenery
Wreck of the Condesito - This is the wreck of a ship carrying bags of cement. It is very close to shore and is breaking up quickly. As well as a few swim throughs it is full of fish life of all types. We also did this as a night dive which was excellent.
The Rays - Probably the best dive of the holiday. Hand feeding 2m long Atlantic Rays, followed by a small wreck and a small reef. Almost the perfect dive. If you like the sound of this come into the centre to watch the DVD of this amazing dive
Wreck of the Meridian - This is the wreck of a tourist Pirate Ship and it is completely intact including the rigging and the crows nest. An excellent dive in fairly deep water.
As usual Geoff and his family at Atlantis Divers were excellent hosts and really tried to look after us. Ask Andrea about the steak she had on the last night - Desperate Dan would have struggled. Have a look at the pictures and see for yourself. Tenerife really is an excellent dive location.
Congratulations should also go to David and Andrea Beer, and Ruth Wallwork and Heather Lambert who all successfully passed the Advanced Open Water |
