The City of London
A bit about the wreck(s). Commonly thought to be two wrecks on one site, lying seven miles off Shoreham, the history isn't clear due to the mix up with which wrecks are located here. The main location is a wreck lying upside down at a maximum depth of 27 metres. There is a large amount of wreckage with various plates for fish to hide under. Her boilers are also quite clearly seen, as can a large part of the upside down hull. A very interesting dive.
We had dived this early in September and we had had the best visibility of the year !! After a very calm week's weather, and yet another gloriously sunny and surprisingly warm autumn day we were all hoping for a repeat of last times trip.
Actually we had the option of diving the Pentrych which is also an excellent dive but by popular demand we went back to the London.... We weren't disappointed. The visibility was even better. On the descent we could see other divers on the bottom long before we got there. This wreck is full of life . Shoals and shoals of pollack and pouting as well as large crabs and lobsters. The maximum depth was 26m so bottom time for all of us was very good.
Once again we had a " UK virgin" - John Lancaster who enjoyed both dives, and as usual with virgins he was stunned by the amount of life that there is on a UK wreck. I didn't take my underwater case but I did get few pictures of the team on the boat.
Only one more dive left this year which is a shame because the vis has got better and better as we have left the summer behind. If the weather holds we might try to get a few more dives in.... watch this space.
