After May's dive to the Ramsgarth being cancelled everyone was very hopeful for this dive. It was to be our first dive with "the Mistress" sailing from Newhaven.
During the week we had agreed that we would dive the Oceana. This is the wreck of a P&O liner sunk in 1912 after a collision with another boat. Included in the cargo was a large quantity of silver ingots. Most of which were recovered in the immediate salvage. People have found many other valuables and some claim to have salvaged a full dinner set which they use at home !!!
I don't think our team had any illusions in that area. The dive is however quite spectacular. The bow is still sort of intact and if you stand in the wreckage, shoals of pouting will surround you as they pass the wreck. The wreck has a great deal of sea life including shoals of sea bass and whiting
The second dive was to the Lancer. Another excellent wreck that sits in about 25m. This is again the wreck of a freighter sunk during WW1. Although quite dark the visibility was very good. There is still s lot of the wreck left which does mean there are a few swim throughs. Again an excellent dive and one that I would reccomend |
